Good-bye to the Sweet Onion Inn
After fourteens years of loving devotion, clear vision and hard work, Kathy and Ron have left the Inn business behind and moved to warmer pastures. Those of you who have come to know and love them over the years may wish to send them your best wishes on their next adventure. We're sure they'd love to hear from you. You can get in touch with them through Kathy's website: www.kathyheatley.com
As of July 28, 2008, the Sweet Onion Inn has become The Gathering Inn at Hancock. Here's our mission statement:
To provide healthy, nurturing shelter and sustenance of all kinds for guests and staff, in ways that align with the most basic ecological principle: that we must give back more than we take.
Together we bring a clear vision of simple hospitality, warm fires, good food and deep connection. In the coming months, we will be transitioning our kitchen to a "localvore" focus, striving to get almost all of our food "from around here", from local farmers and producers and from our own back yard and greenhouse. That will include moving from strictly vegan food to include both vegetarian and omnivore choices. And it will necessitate that we relax our standards a bit around organic, as many small, local growers, while functionally organic in their practices, are not certified.
We will be scaling back our dinner schedule as well, serving vegetarian/omnivore dinners on Friday and Saturday nights only, beginning September 1st, so as to give us time to get our wood in and our greenhouses started. At breakfast, we will be happy to meet the vegan and vegetarian needs of those who made reservations prior to the changeover. Just let us know ahead of time.
We understand that a great many of the Sweet Onion's guests came for the organic vegan fare, and specifically for Ron's cooking. So you need to know that Ron is no longer running the kitchen here, and that our kitchen is no longer strictly vegan in nature. We'll work hard to take good care of you, but it will be different from how it has been in the past.
If you already have a reservation and find that this change in ownership and focus does not meet your needs or desires, we will completely understand, and we'll be happy to refund your deposit. Look for an email explaining the terms of how that will work. Please feel free to call or write us (see below) with your questions and concerns.
Ron and Kathy have created a wonderful space here. We look forward to serving as both its guardians and co-creators in the time given to us. We hope you'll join us in this time of transition, as we make our way, together, in this most beautiful and uncertain of worlds.
Peace,
Tim Bennett, Kathleen Byrne, Sally Erickson and Carla Royal
